Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders with UpNext Nevada
Workforce development has never been more important, and through UpNext Nevada, we are investing in the next generation of Nevada’s leaders. The UpNext Nevada Program, created in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs Nevada Alliance, NevadaWorks, and the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR), is a statewide leadership initiative designed to prepare young adults for careers in Education, Healthcare, and Energy. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada are one of five Nevada Boys & Girls Clubs participating in this $6.5 million program serving over 200 participants.
This year, the program is providing 12 BGCWN employees ages 18–24 and 3 Club teens ages 15-17 with the training, support, and resources they need to strengthen their leadership abilities and build meaningful, future-ready careers. Each participant is paired with a mentor from BGCWN’s Executive Leadership Team who guides them through a personalized career journey to help them navigate post-secondary education while gaining full-time work experience at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. This program not only provides mentorship but also offers tuition reimbursement, access to online leadership and workforce development training, and competitive wages along with comprehensive insurance benefits.
Lukas F., Program Lead at the Wray Family Clubhouse and current UpNext participant, shared the profound impact the program has had on his education & career. “The UpNext Nevada Program and its benefits have been a massive aid to both my professional and educational career. The financial support alone has been life-changing. Last year, I was at a point where my finances would not allow me to continue my education, and this program gave me the ability to keep going. The professional development opportunities have also positioned me to pursue higher-level roles with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada or secure a stable, well-paying job elsewhere—an invaluable advantage in today’s world.”
